Ladder Back Chairs

Here we have a set of six black lacquer and gold leaf chairs that were all loose and poorly repaired. The chairs were improperly nailed together at the rungs with small finishing nails and a few of the stringers had broken their dowel ends off. In order to reglue the chairs properly, all nails needed to be removed and four original corner screws that attach the seat to the frame had to be drilled out and removed. Subsequently, the chairs were completely disassembled, joints cleaned of old glue, properly glued and clamped overnight.

After regluing all holes were filled, sanded to shape and then black lacquered.  The Gold Leaf paint was also touched up.
